This calendar lists traditional music and dance-related events throughout Michigan, Northwest Ohio, and Northeast Indiana. Ann Arbor, Clawson, Goshen IN, Grand Rapids, Holland, Kalamazoo area, Lansing area, Midland, Toledo OH, and Traverse City all have regular contra dances, for example. All listings include contact information in case you have questions about that event.

Front Page: special events, classes, weekends, events requiring registration, etc.
Weekly Events: recurring events by the day of week with (nearest town)
All Events: events by date with (nearest town)
Locations: venue names and directions from nearest town

Submit an event or correction to the calendar by sending complete information (sponsor, event name, callers/leaders, musicians, details, times, prices, and location with directions) to:   A printed version of the calendar is produced every two months. Deadline is the 10th of every even-numbered month, for example: Feb 10 for the March/April issue.

Concerts

Fridays, 8pm: Green Wood Coffee House in Ann Arbor.

Fridays, 8pm: Ten Pound Fiddle in East Lansing.

Saturdays, 8pm: Grand River Folk Arts Society in Grand Rapids beginning on Oct 11.

Sunday, Nov 2, 3pm: AACTMAD concert/jam with Alan Jabbour and Ken Perlman; $10/$9; Pittsfield Grange.

Oct 17-19: Looking Glass Fall Festival Weekend at CUMC in Lansing. Kathy Anderson (Dayton, OH) and Seth Tepfer (Atlanta, GA) call to music by the Elderbullies (Fred Campeau on fiddle, Dave Landreth on banjo, John Hatton on guitar, and Tom Ball on bass) and Dr. Grangelove (Brad Battey, Dave Orlin, and Debbie Jackson).

   Fri, Oct 17, 8:00pm: Welcome dance with Kathy, Seth, and the Elderbullies. $20.

   Sat, Oct 18:

12:00-5:00pm: Multiple tracks of 4 workshops/dances including: "Color Outside the Lines" & "Examination of Contra Corners" (Seth), English Country Dance, Challenging Squares, Callers workshop, Clogging, Singing & Instrumental workshops and much more! $16.
5:00pm: Tracy & George celebration in the church followed by dinner.
7:30pm: New dancer workshop with Seth.
8:00pm: Evening dance with Kathy, Seth, the Elderbullies, and Dr. Grangelove. $20.
   Sun, Oct 19, 12:30pm: Farewell dance with Kathy, Seth, and the Elderbullies. $15.

Oct 24-26: Country Dance Weekend in Worthington, OH. Contras, English country, and Scottish country dancing featuring Kathy Anderson and Bare Necessities. Full weekend for $85 before Oct 6.

Saturday, Oct 25: 4th Annual Civil War Harvest Ball. 7th MI Volunteer Infantry hosts. Glen Morningstar calls. Music by the Olde Michigan Ruffwater Stringband. Reservations and Civil War era attire required. 7-10pm; $15 before Oct 10; 517-484-2496. CUMC.

Nov 1-2: AACTMAD Weekend with Alan Jabbour and Ken Perlman at the Pittsfield Grange in Ann Arbor.

Sat, Nov 1, 10am-noon, workshops: basic Clawhammer (Ken); intermediate Fiddle (Alan).
Sat, Nov 1, 1-3pm, workshops: intermediate Clawhammer (Ken); advanced Fiddle (Alan).

Sat, Nov 1, 8pm: Contra dance with Glen Morningstar calling to music by Alan and Ken. $10/$9/$5 students.

Sun, Nov 2, 3pm: Concert/Jam with Alan and Ken. $10/$9.

Dec 5-7: Winter Warmup Weekend in Worthington, OH featuring: Joseph Pimentel, Gaye Fifer, the Great Bear Trio, the Timber Wolves, Changeling, and the Scalar Scalawags.

Dec 26 - Jan 1, 2009: Berea Christmas Country Dance School in Berea, KY.

Dec 27 - Jan 1, 2009: Terpsihore's Holiday 2008 at the Stonewall Resort in Roanoke, WV. Contras, English country, couple, morris and sword dancing, singing, storytelling, and a wide range of great family activities. Featuring Bill Wellington, Gaye Fifer, Notorious, Steve Hickman, DeLaura Padovan, John Devine, Leslie Milbourne, and a bunch more. Discounted advanced registration is due by Dec 1 - check the website for package details.

Feb 27 - Mar 1, 2009: Ann Arbor Dawn Dance Weekend featuring: Robert Cromartie, Gene Murrow, the Latter Day Lizards with Stuart Kenney, and Childgrove. Ann Arbor.
